I Supported:

County Comprehensive Plan that preserves farmland and controls growth

Economic Plan that includes a mix of light industry, commercial and residential development around existing communities.

Wind Farm across southern border of County if the local residents are in agreement and there is not a significant environmental impact to the area

Expansion of individual wind generators for residential homes "under" 2 acres

Creation of Alternative Housing plans to promote next generation home construction that utilize alternative energy conservation

Tax credits to homeowners for alternative energy systems such as wind, solar and bio fuels

Lowered property taxes through increased business tax incentives

Summer Internships for High School and College students - if funds are available

A County Jail addition - if funded without raising property taxes

County Health Facility - full funding

Expanding Bike Trails and designated street bike routes

Proper pay equity at the County administrative level - any pay increases should be based upon market value, not political expedience.

I Did Not Support:

Potawatomi/County agreement without Federal recognition of land as "legal" Reservation status

Urban sprawl from poor city planning and abusive annexation policies

Over reliance on some government functions by non-elected officials (these people should be accountable - therefore they should be elected)

Home Rule where taxes could legally unilaterally be raised without a vote from taxpayers

Excessive fees or surcharges passed onto homeowners and renters that are actually "hidden taxes"

Hiring or firing of any county employees due to their political affiliation (what ever happened to best qualified?)

Closed door meetings where budgets or policies may be discussed that should be open to ALL of the public

"Business as usual" - all elected officials are accountable to the people that elect them, yet often after winning office many loose site of this fundamental principle. We need to end this atmosphere of elitism where some politicians think they can do what they want once elected... at the taxpayers expense!

"Partisan politics" where people cannot settle their differences and only vote based upon a party line stance. If elected I will vote on what I believe is best for the county based upon my statements in this site as well as what I have publicly stated in the past.

Citizens have become overburdened with taxes in this country! Taxes should never be the first choice for government when it comes to fiscal deficiencies. I believe that just as renters and homeowners manage their budgets, government must also live within its means. There is this misconception among some elected (and nonelected) officials that government has the right to do whatever is necessary to raise taxes when it feels necessary to fix budgets, fund projects or do what it thinks is in it's best interest. Some in government believe that they know what is best for the masses, at times forsaking public interests and answering back through excessive ordinances, over zealous committees, nonbiding resolutions, "hidden tax"/fees, etc. There are alternatives to this status quo, but it takes independent thinkers to stand up for citizens rights that will not be swayed by a herd mentality or belief by some that once elected they are no longer answerable to the people.
