I hope that anyone visiting this site at this point is either a former supporter or someone still curious about what I stood for in the November 4th, 2008 General Election.
I started my race for County Board almost one year ago. I was campaigning up until election day optimistic that I could win, based on the amount of time and effort I spent in the months preceding the election. Yet I fell short in a year that showed unprecedented turnouts in not only the national election but local races as well.
To be chosen by my party and be able to participate in a historic election has been an honor that I will always cherish. To have supporters say that they would vote for me or to see yard signs in a neighbors lawn was something that was truly humbling.
Before I took down my yard signs the day after the election, I thought "3 out of 4 is not bad" (see upper right picture). Three of the four candidates from my yard signs won their races. So I guess I can look at it from the stand point that I was 75% successful in my picks. Too bad that fourth guy did not win.
My daughter Holly posed by this last sign I put in the ground just before election day. It was somewhat symbolic in that as I pulled this sign up it signified the end of the race. I will no longer seek any future runs for County Board in District 5.
We are now represented in this district by two students. Lets hope as homeowners and major taxpayers that fund the City of DeKalb and the county that we get proper representation on the board. The phrase "taxation without representation" comes to mind and I find that troubling.
I will continue on in various activities in the community. Thanks again to all who contributed to my campaign!
Best Regards,
Philip Young

My sincerest thanks to all who supported my campaign and who voted for me!
